If you’ve followed me for even five minutes, you know I'm all about spots that actually hit. Not just hype—real flavor, real stories, real Dayton staples. Here are three of my go-to places you need to try.
Slyders Tavern
LOCATED AT 836 WATERVILET AVE, DAYTON, OH 45420
Slyders isn’t just a restaurant--it’s personal. I grew up going here with his grandma, and honestly… it hasn’t changed. That’s part of the magic.
The burgers are straight-up nostalgic, the wings always deliver, and somehow, no matter how many times you go, it never misses. It’s the kind of place that feels like home the second you walk in.
JOE'S PIZZERIA
LOCATED AT 4313 AIRWAY RD, DAYTON, OH 45431
An absolute Dayton icon. Joe’s has been doing its thing since the ’60s and they haven’t changed a thing. One location. No delivery. No shortcuts.
You can take it to go, but don’t. Eating inside is part of the experience. The crust comes out perfectly charred and crispy, and those pepperonis? They curl up into little cups of crispy, greasy perfection. It’s simple, classic, and exactly how pizza should be.
GRIST
LOCATED AT 46 W 5TH ST, DAYTON, OH 45402
VISIT THEIR WEBSITE
Grist is doing something special. Everything is made from scratch, everything is intentional, and you can taste the care in every bite.
I haven’t even made it through the full menu yet—and that tells you something. They’re always experimenting, always evolving, always giving you a reason to come back. This is where you go when you want something fresh, creative, and made with love.
FINAL BITE
These aren’t just restaurants—they’re stories. From childhood memories to scratch-made creativity to old-school perfection, this is Dayton at its best.
